CHAMBERSBURG PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION RECOMMENDS DRAFT COMPREHENSIVE PLAN TO TOWN COUNCIL
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 9, 2022
Please be advised that on June 7, 2022, the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the draft comprehensive plan, Chambersburg Vision 2035, to Town Council. The plan can be viewed by clicking on the link below.
In 2021, planning consultant Michael Baker International guided Borough representatives, a committee of 16 citizens appointed by Town Council and the public through a 12-month process to prepare a new comprehensive plan, Chambersburg Vision 2035. A comprehensive plan, also known as a general plan, master plan or land use plan, is a Council-approved strategic planning document designed to guide the future actions of our local municipality. The comprehensive plan also presents a vision for the future, with long-range goals and objectives for various activities that affect local government. Municipalities update their plans from time to time, with the Borough last adopting a comprehensive plan in 2008.
After Mr. Truax presents the draft plan, Town Council will be asked whether any changes are necessary before the plan is provided to Franklin County, surrounding municipalities (Greene, Guilford and Hamilton Townships) and the Chambersburg Area School District for review before Town Council conducts a Public Hearing, after which they could consider granting final approval for the plan. If Town Council decides to proceed with this review period, and final approval consideration, staff will ask for permission to schedule and advertise a Public Hearing.
The next step is to present the draft plan, as recommended by the Commission, to Town Council. That will occur on Monday, June 27, 2022, when Troy Truax from Michael Baker International will attend the Town Council meeting to present the draft plan, to include the changes recommended by the Commission. The meeting will be held in Council Chambers, starting at 7:00 p.m. Council Chambers is located in the Utility Departments Addition to Borough Hall, 100 South Second Street, which can be accessed from the entrance off the parking lot to the rear of the building. The entrance is next to the flagpoles.
Any person that has questions or needs accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act in order to gain access to or participate in the Town Council meeting should contact Phil Wolgemuth, Deputy Borough Manager, at 717-251-2436 or at email@example.com.
